Chelsea came into theater with many years sewing experience, but zero with rendering! As part of her M.A., she took Costume 1 and completed several projects that allowed her to practice with new mediums. This is an ongoing journey for Chelsea, and one that she is very passionately pursuing in her personal time, not only due to her aspirations for costume design, but as she enjoys the power of being able to share the visions in her head for the first time as a maker.
Below are a few projects that show her overall progress in a few short months.

Moving to freehand was important to Chelsea moving forward. For her work on Intimate Apparel, she moved to free handing her sketches versus copying. She used multiple tutorials and books to develop her initial technique.

She also wanted to work with additional physical mediums. For her renderings for Flashes:A Fantasy Play, Chelsea used gouache for the first time.

For A Number, Chelsea used what she learned on her first. rendering projects, and used a combination of gouache and marker and freehand.

Chelsea is very goal oriented and wants to bring more life to her renderings. Her next medium to experiment with is color pencils. She is using her winter break 2024 to learn more about rendering fabrics, shadows, and layering colors for more depth.
