Hat-making

By

In 2023, Chelsea participated in a hat-making course in Paris, France at Mini-Me Studio. This class allowed participants to completely customize and build a wool felt hat on any selected form, cut their own brim width, and decorate.

Additionally, Chelsea has experience pattern testing and fabricating the Mahogany Turban by indie pattern designer Fibr & Cloth Studio. Made from scraps of sari silk, the final product was also lined with silk.

Additional projects exhibiting technical experience with hat-making include the following headpieces improvised from found objects. The first, was made for the University of Iowa production of For Colored Girls designed by I.M. Fortunato. The second, is a fascinator made for a Kentucky Derby themed murder mystery party. The design was intended to feel chaotic, as the character was a frazzled, waspish party-planner.
